Thomas Geiger
Thinking Machine
Thinking Machine – this is
what Thomas Geiger calls his
simple construction of a cardboard
box containing three revolving
discs with about 50 adjectives and
nouns each. Geiger spins the
Thinking Machine every morning
before leaving the house. The
combination of words thus created stays with him throughout the day
and serves as a basis for Geiger’s
visualization thereof in either a
photo, a short video, an action or
the description of a specific
situation. This approach helps
Geiger to discover new ways in the
every-day seeing and perceiving
and enables him to explore the
boundaries in the relationship of
language and seeing – or as Peter
Handke put it in The Weight of the
World: “To see in language”.
